Thoughts on World Down Syndrome Day
The 21st of March is word down syndrome day. It is always gratifying to see family and community support for people with down syndrome, and those families have taught me so much about being a better parent. I also think of my own personal experiences growing up, seeing people need help and support in understanding their loved ones, or failing to meet the needs of their dependants because there was never anyone to guide them and let them know what to expect. There is always a need to spread awareness and for us to support one another, many people still feel anxiety around cognitive health or would rather not do anything, I do not think that is a healthy approach. All we can do is try to be there for the people you care about and not to stay silent if we can help.
